TECHNOLOGY

The first commercial application of mass spectrometry was as a process monitor in petrochemical refining operations. Since that time, the power of a mass spectrometer as a stand-alone analytical tool has been overshadowed by its use as a chromatography detector.   Monitor Instruments has applied modern computer design aids, microelectronics, and innovative inlet and vacuum technologies to develop fast and cost effective mass spectrometers to replace slow and expensive process gas chromatography. Complex mixtures of multiple gases can now be analyzed directly by the mass spectrometer – without the need for time consuming chromatographic separation – using matrix inversion programs used to extract sample concentrations. Monitor Instruments has been developing mass spectrometers with the simplicity, performance, durability, low cost, and long term stability needed for rapidly expanding industrial needs.

In addition, the Company is leveraging its patented linear cycloid mass spectrometer technology to develop innovative portable gas specific detectors using NEG-Ion pump technology, as described in the following sections.
